FAQs

What is Medicare?

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for people age 65+ and certain younger individuals with disabilities. It includes Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) coverage.

When can I enroll in Medicare?

Most people enroll during their Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) — a 7-month window around their 65th birthday. Missing it may lead to penalties or delays.

What is the difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage?

Original Medicare is government-run and allows any provider who accepts Medicare. Medicare Advantage (Part C) is offered by private insurers, includes extra benefits, and has network/provider rules.

What is a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan?

These are all-in-one private plans that include Parts A and B, usually Part D, and may offer extras like dental, vision, and hearing benefits.

Do Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage?

Most do — these are called MA-PD plans and can save you from needing a separate Part D plan.

What are Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans?

These private plans help cover out-of-pocket costs in Original Medicare, such as deductibles and coinsurance. They do not work with Medicare Advantage.

How do Medigap Plans F, G, and N differ?

Plan F covers nearly all costs but is not available to new Medicare enrollees. Plan G is similar but excludes the Part B deductible. Plan N has small copays.

Do I need a Medigap plan if I have Medicare Advantage?

No. Medigap is only for those who stick with Original Medicare.

What isn’t covered by Medicare?

Original Medicare does not cover routine dental, vision, hearing, or long-term care. Many people add Advantage or other insurance for this.

What services do Medicare Protection (consultation) agents provide?

Licensed advisors help you compare plans, enroll, and avoid costly mistakes — all at no charge to you.
